Wednesday 3/27/2013 HAKUNA MATATA!! We enjoyed an amazing day of No Worries! Our day started at the gate of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. For those accepting the challenge to climb to the "roof of Africa" this is where the journey begins. We learned about the team members (guide, assistant guide, and porters) and immense preparation needed to complete this great climb-4 days to the top and 3 days down. From here on to the Chagga Caves rich in history! These caves are man made and were used as strategical hiding places from the attacking Massai tribe. They were in use for a couple of hundred years until the 1960s! The stories from these caves are an important part of the history of the Chagga people. Onward to a 20 minute hike down a very steep, and rocky cliff the bottom of the Ndoro waterfall. We used walking sticks for balance and were awed by the immense beauty surrounding us. At the bottom we were over come by the cool mist from the 60 meter waterfall. The majority of the afternoon was spent swimming (or trying to swim) in the very cool refreshing waters from the falls. Between the strong current and slippery rocks it was a once in a lifetime experience. And one not soon forgotten!!!! Unfortunately the fun had to end and the hike back to the top was exhausting...but worthwhile. We ended the evening saying goodbye to our friends from the Honey Badger Lodge-Mama Lucy, Jenny, and Joseph (our gracious hosts), Hans, George, and Casto (our beloved and loyal drivers), Anseth, Daudi, Sophie, Angel, Johari (our attentive servers) and the rest of the wonderful staff at Honey Badger, including anyone else we have not mentioned. The friendships we have made here will last a lifetime. ASANTE SANA!!!!
Stay tuned for our continuing adventure...
